Hi Everybody,

How was your weekend? Mine was cooler and breezier. Although breezy probably not the right word for Tybee this weekend. That Northeaster was tracking about 25 knots. The beach would have been pretty empty anyway the week before school starts in Chatham but even more so because of the weather. And because of the surf it was rough. No jellyfish this weekend, too rough for them. But the cooler weather was a pleasant respite and we get ready for the Labor Day weekend, traditionally the last blast of summer.

The talk about eliminating smoking on the beach is heating up. Please let folks know..."The Beach is not an ashtray".

Speaking about heating up..how 'bout them Braves!! You know the game they blew last week, losing that 10-1 lead, is the kind of game that can define a season. But Atlanta came right back with another walk off win yesterday. The first walk off ever decided by instant replay.

The Heritage moved ahead one week for next years event. Now it's head to head with the Legends. Not good for either event. Both tourney's futures now somewhat questionable. Let's hope it gets worked out. Very important to the economic health of the community.

Lot's of talk recently about new locations for the proposed new Civic Center. Wherever we build it let's get started sooner rather than later. It's the only way to compete for the type of entertainment Savannah wants.

Last night's Emmy's... Jimmy Fallon funnier than he is on his own show...good job. Mad Men and Modern Family the big winners.

Can you imagine Football season is almost here? Colleges start this week. Off season troubles for the Bulldogs continue with the arrest of Waushan Ealy. Disappointed in Coach Richt's response of a one game suspension. The charges warranted more than that

Tough week...the oldest cat in the household is gone. Best Pal lived to the age of 19. And she was a best cat. Named after a great Thoroughbred of days gone by just like Smarty Jones at the Q has a Thoroughbred namesake.

Have a great week everybody,

Jerry

Hello Everybody,

What a storm Friday evening in Savannah. The Q got a direct lightening hit that took out the antenna on our tower. We went off the air at 6:15PM. Great job by our engineer, Marty Foglia, getting a tower crew in from Columbia, SC. They got here Saturday morning and we were back on at 12:15PM. Thanks again to Marty and thanks to you for your patience.

Jellyfish seem to be gone from Tybee and not soon enough. Lot's of folks getting stung and even a rare Portugese Man of War sting...very painful.

Although the Jellyfish may be gone the butts are still around. About 5PM Sunday a man and woman and some kids hit the beach. Right away the two adults head for the water with cigarettes in their mouths. Of course when they come out the cigs have been discarded into the ocean. And to complete the pretty picture they immediately light up on the beach and of course toss the butts. So here's the deal..if you yahoo's are reading this...THE OCEAN IS NOT A SPITOON AND THE BEACH IS NOT AN ASHTRAY....SO STOP IT!!

I've spoken to some Tybee officials recently and there may be some interest in making Tybee a no smoking beach...that would be nice.

Another Tybee note....stop with the groundwater nonsense and turn the showers back on. It's wrong to have people drive all the way to the beach even if it's only from town and not have simple amenities like a shower to make the ride home more comfortable. And you know if people can rinse off maybe they'd stay for awhile and enjoy a meal at one of the Islands fine restaurants.

So how dumb is Roger Clemens? The same thing that took Martha Stewart and Blogo down and will take Barry Bonds down, lying to the Feds, will do The Rocket in. It's not the deed it's the cover up. You can't lie to the government.

How about those Braves.....The comeback kids. They're doing it for Bobby on his farewell lap.

Keep on Rockin',

Jerry

Lot's of guys in contention at the PGA but hard to get into it when it's not Lefty or Tiger. At least Phil got it going in the last round, but Tiger..NOTHING. He is a very old 34.

Did get into it at the end...are you kidding me? There was sand there but since when are spectators standing in a sand trap? And where was the marshall who was following Dustin Johnson's group? The explanation we got from the PGA official was LAME.."we don't want to be hovering over the players"...gimme a break. Yes, DJ, should have paid closer attention to the posted rules regarding the 1,200+ traps on the course..even the ones that don't look anything like sand traps. But the PGA has to share just as much blame. And can you imagine if he had sunk that putt on 18 thinking that gave him the win. Everybody's jumping and screaming and crying and then...that tap on the shoulder. Would not have been pretty.

Big doings last week with Lyndy Brannen leaving TV. Lot's of tributes pouring in for  the Savannah native. Lyndy is one of a kind and we're lucky to have him at the Q. Lyndy one of the many veterans at Savannah's local radio station. Between all of us we've been on the air in Savannah for over 100  years...hope we don't sound that old

The Jellyfish are still prominent at the beach. Lot's of folks stung again this weekend and the funny thing you don't see them. In years past there were bunches washed up on the shore and sometimes you could see them in the water. Not this year..they are invisible stingers...but they hurt just as much

The other day I ran accross a poster from the Atlanta Pop Festival. The Summer of '69, my first year in Savannah. We made our way to the raceway in Byron just outside of Atlanta. What an event. Check this line up...Led Zeppelin, Janis Joplin, Canned Heat, Joe Cocker, Johnny Winter, CCR, Blood, Sweat and Tears, Grand Funk Railroad, Chicago Transit Authority(before they were Chicago) and many more. Led Zeppelin's performance is my most vivid memory, that and the heat. It was the 4th of July weekend and my first experience with the heat of a Georgia summer.

Tybee officials tell me they're working to improve beach signage. There are lot's of beach rules that if not followed will earn a stiff fine. The least city officials can do is make sure beach visitors are aware of the rules.

And one other Tybee note...The Beach is not an ashtray!!

Do not leave your butts on the beach...

Have a great week,

Jerry
