sand_gnats

The week is off to a nice start but with rain heading our way maybe tomorrow. Nice weekend at the beach but with a different look to the beach surface in many areas. The beach was harrowed..... all for the turtles. The sand had become too hard and packed, making it difficult for nesting so the changes to the surface were made last week. Hopefully there'll be lots of healthy babies born this season. Thanks to my Tybee Y workout buddy, Frank, for the heads up on the situation.

One other Tybee note..walking back from the beach yesterday we saw a dog locked in a car with hardly any ventilation. The Tybee police arrived on the scene and shortly thereafter came the dog owners. They received a lecture on proper animal care along with a citation.

The Braves back in business...all it took was a little dose of Houston and some hitting from rookie Jason Heyward. And how about our first place Savannah Sand Gnats with the best record in the Sally league.

Happy to have picked the Derby winner this year. Super Saver and a cold exacta with Ice Box. Calvin Borel is Mr. Derby.

Great story with Savannah connections the day before at Churchill  Downs on Oaks Day. One of the preliminary races was won by a 2 year old colt named Lou Brissie. The WW11 hero who was a Savannah pitching icon. A 23-5 record on a shattered leg. The 88 year old Brissie was at the track to see his namesake get the win.

The big story at the Quail Hollow golf tournament was Tiger missing the cut--at least that was the story until yesterday. 20 year old Irish golfer Rory McIlory shot a closing round 62 to win his first PGA tournament. He became the youngest winner on tour since..well...Tiger Woods..

Have a great week,

Jerry

derby

Hope your week is off to a good start..at least a better start than the local weather forecasters had this weekend. What happened to the Sunny Saturday?

Did you watch the Legends tournament on CBS? Great shots of our beautiful city.

Even with the inclement weather lots of folks at the beach this weekend. Parking always an issue and a hassle. Find the meter put your quarters or credit card in and back to your vehicle..you know the drill. Do you think a toll road just past the bridge would be a better idea? Maybe $5 and then parking is free for the day..of course you'd still have to find a spot. Residents and Island workers would be exempt.

The first Saturday in May is this Saturday and that means the Kentucky Derby. The pre-race favorite, Eskendereya, withdrawn yesterday with a leg injury. It will be a wide open contest with just about any of the 20 colts, geldings and one filly eligible to win.

I love Baseball..will the Braves ever start hitting?...doesn't it seem like the games are getting slower and slower? Every batter out of the box after each pitch adjusting those batting gloves..they all must have tics...anyway how about a pitch clock like the shot clock in basketball? And how about limiting the number of times a catcher can visit the mound during an inning....the managers have a limit of two and so should the catchers..throw the ball already, willya..

Have a great week,

Jerry

pollen

Pleasantly cool Spring time weather in Savannah today. That doesn't help the pollen victims..we need some rain..and soon.

Big weekend at the beach...Orange Crush. Police presence maybe just a little over the top. Didn't see any "Welcome Orange Crush" signs...but there were no problems to speak of. Lots of litter but that's the case on any big weekend. And oh those spinners....pretty cool.

Lots of golf going around. The Heritage just concluded and the Legends  underway. Too bad these events are back-to-back. We'd probably have more Savannah people heading to HHI and vice versa if that wasn't the case.

Have you sent your Census form in yet? And what's up with the question...is your home paid for? Who needs to know that and why? And since it's so important to get these forms in, why can't they be sent to PO boxes? And at Tybee not only do they not go to the boxes but when you go to the P.O. there's a sign that tells you to go to the YMCA to pick up your Census form. Government waste at it's best.

The Brave's Jason Heyward looks like the real deal. Game winning RBIs yesterday..only 20 years old.

Congress may finally get something accomplished..they're looking into the volume on TV commercials. You know the deal..you're watching a show, the commercials come on and it sounds like the tornado sirens just went off...

Y'all have a very nice week,

Jerry
